Peer Helpers are students who provide a lifeline to fellow students facing a problem or issue. Peer Helping is making a difference in the lives of our youth!

BULLYING PREVENTION INITIATIVE

High school Peer Helpers from across Baldwin County participated in an anti-bullying summit, “Schools Where Everyone Belongs: Research, Programs, and Policy Designed to Reduce Bullying,” and heard from experts in the fields of cyberbullying, suicide prevention, domestic/dating violence, and more. Following the summit, the Peer Helpers provided a variety of bullying prevention programs and presentations to their fellow students at all grade levels.

The Jennifer Claire Moore is partnering on the “STOP the BULLYING” outreach program with the Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office, Baldwin County Board of Education, Baldwin County Mayors Association and Baldwin County Commissioners, sponsored by the Cox Family Foundation. Students are encouraged to create a video to illustrate the song, “You Had to Pick on Me,” by country singer/songwriter Matt Kennon. Students may create the videos individually or as part of a group.

Winning videos will be selected from two middle schools and two high schools, each of which will receive a free on-campus concert by Kennon and inspirational speaker Troy McClain (featured on “The Apprentice”) in March. Baldwin County Peer Helpers will assist with preparations for a community concert by Kennon on March 14 as part of the “STOP the BULLYING” program.

ABOUT PEER HELPER PROGRAMS

Statistics show that when a young person has an issue, generally he or she will talk to a peer first, even before a teacher or parent. The Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation is a non-profit corporation that provides training, funding and support for Peer Helper programs in all 42 public schools and two private systems in Baldwin County, Alabama. Since 1998, the Foundation has provided training and support programs for local educators who teach, prepare and lead student Peer Helpers. Peer Helpers act as tutors, mentors, mediators and friends to their fellow students.

Thousands of Baldwin County students have been positively impacted by Peer Helpers, who confidentially assist their fellow students and develop programs and projects to address issues including academic struggles and the prevention of bullying/cyberbullying, suicide, dropout, substance abuse, isolation, and a host of other issues. We are honored by the service of the hundreds of young people who serve as Peer Helpers and the educators who lead them as Peer Coordinators

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CO-FOUNDER

Dear Friends,

My world changed on the day my husband and I lost our daughter, Jennifer. Words can't describe the feeling of losing a child - it's an experience no parent should ever have to face. In the midst of our devastation, I knew there was still hope and wanted to make something positive out of this negative situation - that was the start of the Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation.

In 1998, the Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation was established to help Baldwin County Schools create a support group among high school students. These proven programs provide a critical lifeline to help students cope with the day-to-day pressures facing our youth.

I wish the Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation had existed to help my daughter. We want any child who needs support to be able to obtain it. We know our foundation can be a blessing, offering hope to those in search of it.

The Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation is doing great things in our community and we are making ambitious plans to expand our programs and services. We see our foundation making a difference in the lives of our youth as we continue to provide hope and a future for those in search of help. Thank you for your interest in the Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation. Remember, there's always hope!

Sincerely,

Frances Holk Moore Jones
